Recently, there has been a question on, what kind of music we are supposed to listen to as born-again Christians? Surprisingly into my amazement, this is turning into a controversial issue which should not be the case at all. We are of Christ and our character need to be Christ-like.
Coincidentally, I have also been having the same question until I came face to face with the truth which I feel I need to share with you. It is not in my position to tell what to listen and what not to, not at all but by the time am done with my brief speech, I am convinced you will be able to choose what is best for you.
Music is broadly divided into Gospel and secular music. Looking at the roots of each genre, gospel is purposely meant to honour our creator and more so to advise the born-again Christian on what kind of life to lead. Secular music on the other hand deals largely with worldly issues. For instance, love, conflict, deceit amongst other things.
When listening to Gospel music, as a born-again Christian, you feel like worshipping and honouring God. Sometimes you find yourself praying. Moreover, people receive healing through gospel music amongst other kinds and miracles. Yeah!! That is the power of the gospel music. You feeling like you in Heaven, and the angels are just smiling at you showing you where God and His son Jesus. Does it not feel nice? I mean this is what we are supposed to experience as born-again Christian. We need to feel we are close to God every time.
So, how about the secular music? They do the opposite of what gospel does. This is no propaganda, it is the truth in the public. For instance, what happens when you are listening to “Nataka kulewa by Diamond?” I am not becoming judgemental please forgive me but what you are likely to do, pick a Bible and start praying?? You raise up and to tell me that secular music has a message?? I am left wondering what crucial message you’ve got to honour God? Of course not, so when a born-again befriends gospel music or the Bible can’t be lured.
Dear friends, you left the world and chose Christ. Looking back to where you came from is very risky. Remember Lot’s wife looked back then... Genesis 19:26 (You will be turned into a pillar of salt-will be destroyed). It is either you belong to God or the world. Make a decision before it is too late and remember you can never love God and the world. Jesus is coming back, where do you belong? So think about it dear friends every time you put on your earphones to listen to these music
